
From the Economist this week, evidence that what you already knew was right is true. Portuguese drink a little bit at every meal including breakfast and snack breaks (more tea, padre?). The Irish drink a lot, all the time. The Greeks never go out. And the British are, of course, the perfect mean.
I honestly wonder where Americans would lie on this chart. I think we'd end up somewhere near the Brits and the Dutch, not because we're steady, reasonable drinkers, but because we're a strong mix of teetotallers and bingers.
Two Americas, indeed.
