Just a quick note to say that I went to Ueno Park in Tokyo for the cherry blossom festival yesterday. Insane numbers of people having a great time eating and drinking below the cherry blossom trees: quite a sight. But what really made me think of Jame was the specter of thousands of people all raising their hands in some sort of 21st Century ceremony: taking pictures of the cherry blossoms with their camera phones. I took a picture of all the people taking pictures, but it was on old-fashioned 35mm film, so I can't post it here. Sorry.
That sounds like a wonderful picture; please don't forget to scan it and post it when you get back.
Posted by: Saheli on April 5, 2004 01:02 AMI went to the cherry blossoms in DC yesterday due to some friends being in from out of town and making me take them. The blossoms looked lovely against a backdrop of jammed traffic and endless lines of people waiting to get past heightened security to see the First Ladies' inagural dresses.
I lie, the blossoms looked like they always did --lots of white stuff on twigs-- only moving around more because of the gale force winds. So very over-rated.

Could save a lot of time, actually, if you're wondering what to wear for the evening. You could have yourself pre-vetted by the style police as you try on stuff in front of the mirror. Saves time and potential embarassment!
