Back in November, I complained about the way Jake Dobkin always posts the most unflattering possible photos of people at his parties, singling this gruesome image out as particularly nauseating.
Jake obviously has a particularly nasty sense of humour, since he's gone and used exactly that photo of me on his invitation to the New York Bloggers event at the Apple Store in New York on May 3. Obviously, any and all Memefirst readers in NYC on that date are more than welcome to come along, and see for themselves that I honestly don't have that bizarre combination of chinlessness and a double chin in real life.
More importantly, I need to come up with questions to ask Lock, Jen and Choire. Any suggestions?
PS: It's probably worth noting, given the subject matter, that this entry is being posted from the Apple Store Ginza.
Questions/suggestions for your moderating stint:
Is this the moment the NYC blogging scene finally disappears up it own arse?
How do we get more straight people to blog? Sort of a queer blog for the bandwidth hog. I mean, just look at the speaker roster! Is there really nobody straight out there who blogs?
Propose that everytime somebody on the panel mentions the word "blog", they have to donate a dollar to the Fairchild Oppresses Asians Fund (FOAF).
Ask why there is no panel on anonymous bloggers. TMFTML could show up with a paper bag over her head, and Eurotrash could wear his burqa.
Seriously, now, is this the end of blogging for bucks? Methinks Gothamist and Gawker are having some scaling issues regarding blog (im)personality, while Calacanis and Denton are finding that the author is the brand (Gawker was an exception, in that he replaced one unique blogger with another).
Could ecverybody just shut up and interview Shirky for a few hours? Might make the evening worthwhile.
Discuss something real.
Posted by: Stefan Geens on April 19, 2004 07:53 AMFelix, I know I'd had a few beers when we met, and I know you had too, but I think the picture is a superb likeness. Worryingly, it also looks like a fair number of photos of me.
Questions for the panel:
(1) "why am I here? (a) Stefan does all the work keeping the site pretty, (b) the talent is all in the comments and, (c) memefirst doesn't have 'editors' because some of the other sources are prudish/have a little bit of taste depending on your point of view"
(2) "Who are you people? Do I know you?"
