Streaming football

I'm having a lot of difficulty streaming media from fifaworldcup.com on my Mac. Helpfully, the site – operated by Yahoo – provides a FAQ in which one of the questions is "Why can't I access any streaming media?"

The answer says that "We recommend Netscape Navigator 4.0 or higher" – something precious few Mac users have. But no matter, I can download Netscape. The problem comes when I click on the "to configure your browser" link. There, it says, gloriously:

At this time, Netscape 6 is not compatible with our streaming media selections.

Well, I've got Netscape 7, and that doesn't seem to work, either. Why on earth would you recommend a browser for streaming media which isn't compatible with your streaming media?

By the way, none of the suggestions on this page seem to work, either. The really weird thing is that I did manage to get the streaming video to work a couple of times at the beginning of the Cup. But not any more.

Felix- you're embarrassing the rest of us. Try this. It's particularly fun to watch on the CCTV-5 (Chinese State TV, I assume) feed.

Or just get a damn TV already...

Or go to a bar like every other Limey in NYC.

Last time 'round (2002) I went to Telephone with some frieds for lunch, and the bar area was filled with British men. Several had infants with them, in car seats placed on the bar.

I briefly considered calling Child Services, just to see if I could manage to start a British soccer hooligan riot on the other side of the planet from the actual World Cup events.

Duh. Of course I can watch the games when they're live, on the telly. The question is what happens when, for instance, two games are on at the same time, and I want to see the highlights of the one I didn't watch. Or when I don't watch a match, and I want to see the goal that Argentina scored in the 98th minute to go through to the quarter-finals and which I couldn't see because I was at the annual meeting of a certain organisation on whose board I sit. So no, I'm not interested in live TV. And I'm certainly not interested in solutions which only work on PCs and not Macs.

Sterling, are you saying that placing a child in a car seat on a bar is more dangerous than placing a child in a car seat in a car?

Works fine under Firefox on my Mac Mini. Have you got Windows Media or Real Player installed?

Both, yes, as well as Flash 9, which is the most relevant one, since that's what the video is supposedly in.

Flash 9? Well there's your problem: you're watching soccer in the future.

I can guarantee they don't really mean Netscape Navigator - that FAQ must have been recycled from the 1998 world cup!
